The genus Felicia, family Asteraceae, includes 60 species of annual plants and subshrubs native to Tropical and Southern Africa. Some species are: Felicia amelloides, Felicia pappei, Felicia filifolia, Felicia bergeriana. Common names: Blue felicia bush, Shrubby felicia, Bush felicia, Blue felicia, Blue marguerite, Blue daisy bush, Paris daisy. This species is native to the southern coast of South Africa. They are small herbaceous plants that reach 40 cm (15.74") in height. The leaves are green on the upper side and gray on the underside. The attractive flowers appear in blue chapters with a yellow center. They bloom throughout the year except for winter. Blue daisy bush is used in rockeries, borders and in pots as indoor plants and for balconies and terraces. Felicia amelloides needs full sun or very bright exposure (indoors). The ideal annual average temperature is 15-25 ºC (59-77 ºF). It does not resist frost or cold. The soil must be well drained and contain organic matter. Planting or transplanting is done at the end of winter. Water abundantly in summer and reduce watering the rest of the year. Fertilize every 15 days with mineral fertilizer in spring and summer to promote flowering. Blue marguerite is a quite resistant plant to pests and diseases. Shrubby felicia propagates by seeds sown in early or mid-spring. |
