The genus Drosanthemum, family Aizoaceae, includes 100 species of succulent plants native to southern Africa. Some species are: Drosanthemum bicolor, Drosanthemum floribundum, Drosanthemum hispidum, Drosanthemum diversifolium, Drosanthemum speciosum.

Common name: Sunset Dewfig. This species is native to South Africa.

Drosanthemum bicolor is a shrubby succulent plant that grows up to 1 meter (3.28 feet) tall. The erect, cylindrical leaves are light green. The showy, daisy-like flowers are orange-red and yellow. It blooms in spring. The flowers open in direct sunlight and close at dusk.

Sunset Dewfig is used in rockeries, on dry, sunny slopes, in low-maintenance gardens, in borders, and in pots for patios and terraces. It is ideal for Mediterranean coastal gardens.

Drosanthemum bicolor requires full sun exposure and a warm, dry climate.

Sunset Dewfig grows in any type of well-drained soil, whether poor, sandy, or stony.

Drosanthemum bicolor is a fairly drought-resistant plant that requires moderate watering, waiting until the soil has completely dried out.

Fertilize once in early spring with mineral fertilizer for cacti and succulents.

Prune faded flowers to encourage new blooms.

Sunset Dewfig is fairly resistant to common pests and diseases but can be attacked by mealybugs.

Drosanthemum bicolor propagates from seeds sown in spring and from cuttings in summer or fall.
