Care of the plant Limonium bourgeaui or Statice bourgaei

The genus Limonium, family Plumbaginaceae, includes about 300 species of annual and subshrub plants, mostly from the Mediterranean. Some species are: Limonium bourgeaui, Limonium sinuatum, Limonium vulgare, Limonium latifolium, Limonium algarvense, Limonium incanum, Limonium bellidifolium, Limonium bonduellii, Limonium caesium.

Scientific synonym: Statice bourgaei. This species is native to the Canary Islands.

They are perennial herbaceous plants with a short, woody stem and basal rosette leaves that reach 60 cm (23.6") in height and 50 cm (19.68") in diameter. The hairy sinuate-lobed leaves are green with reddish hues. Small, showy blue and white flowers appear in dense branched inflorescences above the leaves. They bloom in spring and summer.

They are used in rockeries, in borders, on dry and sunny slopes and as a cut flower to create floral decorations.

The Limonium bourgeaui needs full sun exposure and a warm climate. Withstands light and occasional frosts.

They grow in well-drained soils whether they are sandy, stony, poor or rocky.

These fairly drought resistant plants need moderate watering waiting for the substrate to dry out.

They do not need fertilizer.

Prune dry leaves in late winter and faded flowers after blooming.

They are plants resistant to the usual pests and diseases.

They are propagated from seeds sown in spring.
