Care of the indoor plant Dendrobium or Dendrobium orchid

The genus Dendrobium, family Orchidaceae, includes more than 1,200 species of orchids native to Asia and Oceania. Some species are: Dendrobium hybridum, Dendrobium nobile, Dendrobium densiflorum, Dendrobium aurcum, Dendrobium bigiddum, Dendrobium speciosum.

Common name: Dendrobium orchid.

They are epiphytic orchid with pseudobulbs that reach 1 meter (3.28 feet) in height. The lanceolate leaves are bright green. They produce conspicuous clusters of white, yellow, pink, red, or orange flowers, depending on the species. They bloom in summer.

These relatively easy-growing orchids are used as greenhouse and indoor plants.

Dendrobium needs an exposure with a lot of light but without direct sun, especially in the middle of the day. It is very important that they have good ventilation and an ambient humidity of at least 30%.

The soil can be a mixture of 1/4 pine bark, 1/4 fern roots, 1/4 moss, and 1/4 peat moss. It's grown in hanging baskets or medium-sized pots.

Water frequently with water without lime in spring and summer so that the substrate never dries out completely. In autumn and winter reduce watering because the plant enters a period of rest.

Dendrobium orchid does not need fertilizer.

This orchidis not usually attacked by the usual pests and diseases if the ventilation and humidity are adequate.

Dendrobium orchid is propagated by dividing the pseudobulbs in early spring.
