Care of the plant Argyranthemum adauctum or Canary marguerite

The genus Argyranthemum, family Asteraceae, comprises 24 species of native flowering plants from the Canary Islands and Madeira; they were previously included in the genus Chrysanthemum. Some species are: Argyranthemum adauctum, Argyranthemum frutescens, Argyranthemum maderense, Argyranthemum haematomma, Argyranthemum tenerifae, Argyranthemum gracile.

Common name: Canary marguerite. This species is native to Canary Islands.

Argyranthemum adauctum is a very branched and compact subshrub that reaches 1.2 meters (3.93 feet) in height. The elegant feathery leaves are dark green. It produces showy and abundant white flowers with a yellow center. It can bloom from mid-winter to mid-summer.

Canary marguerite is used in pots for balconies, patios and terraces, in rockeries, in borders and on dry and sunny slopes. It is ideal for Mediterranean coastal gardens.

Argyranthemum adauctum needs a dry and warm climate and full sun exposure. It does not resist frost.

The soil must be well drained, for which a normal garden soil with 25% coarse sand and a little compost is sufficient.

Water regularly, waiting for the substrate to dry; Canary marguerite resists drought well.

Fertilize in autumn with organic matter (compost) and in spring every 30 days with mineral fertilizer.

Prune wilted flowers to encourage the appearance of new ones. It can be lightly pruned after flowering to maintain a compact appearance.

Canary marguerite does not usually present serious problems with pests and diseases but is sensitive to cold, especially frost.

Argyranthemum adauctum is easily propagated by cuttings taken in spring or summer.
