The genus Santolina, family Asteraceae, includes 15 species of shrubs and subshrubs native to the Mediterranean region. Some species are: Santolina viscosa, Santolina rosmarinifolia, Santolina chamaecyparissus, Santolina suaveolens.

Common name: Campanillas (little bells, in spanish). This species is native to the iberic peninsula.

Santolina viscosa is a highly branched evergreen subshrub that reaches 40 cm in height. The rounded leaves are very small and are usually hidden by the abundant and showy yellow flowers. It blooms in summer.

Campanillas is used in rockeries, on dry, sunny slopes, as a single specimen, and in low-maintenance gardens.

Santolina viscosa requires full sun exposure and a dry, warm climate. It withstands occasional light frosts.

Campanillas grows in any well-drained soil, whether sandy, stony, or poor.

Santolina viscosa is a drought-resistant plant that requires moderate watering, waiting until the soil has completely dried out.

Fertilizer is not necessary.

Prune wilted inflorescences.

Santolina viscosa is resistant to common pests and diseases but sensitive to excess moisture at the roots.

Campanillas is propagated from seeds sown in late winter or early spring.
