The genus Yucca, family Asparagaceae, comprises 50 species of evergreen shrubs native to Mexico, the United States, and the Caribbean. Some species are: Yucca gloriosa, Yucca filifera, Yucca elephantipes, Yucca desmetiana, Yucca carnerosana, Yucca aloifolia, Yucca mixtecana, Yucca rostrata, Yucca schidigera, Yucca thompsoniana, Yucca baccata, Yucca whipplei.

Common names: Spanish bayonet, Spanish Dagger, Palm lily, Glorious yucca, Tree lily. This species is native to the southeastern United States.

They are short-stemmed plants that reach 2 meters (6.56 feet) in height. The bluish-green leaves are arranged in a spiral on the trunk, are linear in shape and measure 50-60 cm. They produce long terminal spikes with large (up to 10 cm/3.93")) white or pink flowers. They bloom in spring and summer.

Spanish Dagger is used as isolated specimens, in rockery, in bushy groups and in pots for balconies and terraces. It's ideal for gardens by the sea because its resist salinity.

Yucca gloriosa needs full sun exposure and a rather dry and arid climate. It can withstand some sporadic and low intensity frost.

Glorious yucca can grow in sandy and dry soils. Transplantation or planting is done in spring.

Water very moderately, taking into account that Palm lily is very resistant to drought (1 watering per week at most).

Spanish Dagger does not need fertilizers.

Prune the dry leaves.

Yucca gloriosa is a very resistant plant to the usual pests and diseases.

Tree lily propagates from seeds sown in the nursery. Transplant 2 years after germination.
