Care of the cactus Rebutia cv Sunrise or Rebutia |
The genus Rebutia, family Cactaceae, includes 40 species of cactus native to Bolivia, Peru and Argentina. Some species are: Rebutia canigueralii, Rebutia deminuta, Rebutia muscula, Rebutia krainziana, Rebutia heliosa, Rebutia arenacea, Rebutia albiflora, Rebutia minuscula, Rebutia perplexa. It's a hybrid between Rebutia heliosa and Rebutia pulvinosa ssp. albiflora. They are small, slow-growing cacti that form colonies and reach 10 cm (3.93") in height. The globular body is covered with spirally arranged tubercles and numerous small white spines. The abundant flowers are creamy white with pink tones. They bloom in spring. It's used in pots as indoor plants, greenhouse plants, on patios and terraces or in mini gardens for cacti and succulents. Rebutia cv Sunrise can grow in full sun but prefers a semi-shaded or filtered light exposure. In winter the temperature should be above 3 ºC (37.4 ºF). The soil can be a commercial substrate for cacti and succulents. Transplant, at the end of winter, when the pot is too small. Water frequently in spring and summer, waiting until the substrate has almost dried; water once a week in summer and every 12-14 days in spring. Reduce watering in fall and do not water in winter. In Mediterranean climates Rebutia cv Sunrise is welcome to be sprayed in summer with water without lukewarm and without lime. Fertilize monthly with mineral fertilizer for cacti in spring and summer. Rebutia cv Sunrise does not need pruning. It's a resistant plant to the habitual plagues and diseases but sensitive to the excess of irrigation. Rebutia cv Sunrise is propagated in spring from suckers that have taken root in a sandy and slightly humid substrate. |
