The genus Limonium, family Plumbaginaceae, comprises about 300 species of annual and subshrub plants, mostly from the Mediterranean Region. Some species are: Limonium cesium, Limonium bourgeaui, Limonium sinuatum, Limonium vulgare, Limonium latifolium, Limonium algarvense, Limonium incanum, Limonium bellidifolium, Limonium bonduellii. Scientific synonym: Statice caesia. This species is native to the Iberian Peninsula. They are highly branched evergreen herbaceous plants that reach 80 cm (31.5") in height. The green leaves are linear and erect. The attractive, small pink or lilac flowers appear on long flower stalks. They bloom from early spring to mid-summer. Statice caesia is used on dry and sunny slopes, in rockeries, borders and as a cut flower. The dried flowers maintain their color and last for several months. It's ideal for Mediterranean coastal gardens due to its resistance to salinity. Limonium caesium needs full sun exposure and a warm climate. It tolerates light frosts. Statice caesia grows in any type of soil that is well drained, especially sandy soil. Water regularly waiting for the substrate to dry. It resists drought well. Limonium caesium does not need fertilizer. Prune dry flower spikes. Statice caesia is a plant resistant to the usual pests and diseases. Limonium caesium is propagated from spring sown seeds previously soaked for 3 hours. |
