The genus Lamiastrum (now Lamium), family Lamiaceae, comprises 50 species of flowering plants native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. Some species are: Lamium galeobdolon, Lamium maculatum, Lamium purpureum, Lamium album, Lamium amplexicaule. Common names: Yellow archangel, Artillery plant, Aluminium plant. This species is native to Europe. They are perennial plants with a creeping habit that reach 60 cm (1.96 feet) in length. The leaves are ovate, opposite and with serrated margins. The showy flowers are yellow in color and bloom from spring to fall. Yellow archangel is mainly used to cover undergrowth and shady areas of the garden. Lamiastrum galeobdon needs semi-shade or shade exposures. Water abundantly in summer without flooding; the rest of the year keep the substrate moist. Lamiastrum galeobdon prefers well-drained soil that contains organic matter. Fertilize every 3 weeks in spring and summer with mineral fertilizer. Lamium galeobdolon is a plant resistant to pests and diseases. Aluminium plant propagates by division in spring and by seeds sown in autumn. |
