Care of the plant Chrysanthemum multicaule or Yellow Daisy

The genus Chrysanthemum, family Asteraceae, comprises 30 species of herbaceus plants native to Asia and Northeast Europe. Some species are: Chrysanthemum multicaule, Chrysanthemum hybridum, Chrysanthemum x hortorum, Chrysanthemum morifolium, Chrysanthemum indicum.

Common name: Yellow Daisy. This species is native to Eurasia.

Chrysanthemum multicaule is a creeping annual herbaceous plant that reaches 25 cm in height. The linear leaves are glossy green. The abundant and showy yellow flowers appear above the leaves. It blooms from late summer to early autumn.

Yellow Daisy is used in rockeries, in light undergrowth, on slopes, in borders, and in hanging pots for patios and terraces.

Chrysanthemum multicaule prefers semi-shade exposure in Mediterranean climates, avoiding direct sunlight during the middle of the day, and full sun exposure in temperate climates with cooler summers.

Yellow Daisy prefers normal garden soil with a little organic matter and coarse sand to improve drainage, although it can grow in poorer soils. Planting in its final location is done in early spring.

Water regularly to ensure the substrate does not dry out completely; wait until the surface of the substrate has dried (never flood).

Fertilize with compost at planting time.

Prunes the dried flowers if you want to obtain seeds. Dry them for 15 days without direct sunlight.

Chrysanthemum multicaule is fairly resistant to common pests and diseases, and can be attacked by aphids.

Yellow Daisy propagates from seeds sown in late winter in a moist seedbed.
