The genus Coreopsis, family Asteraceae, comprises about 100 species of perennial and annual plants, mostly native to America. Some species are: Coreopsis grandiflora, Coreopsis verticillata, Coreopsis tinctoria, Coreopsis gigantea, Coreopsis lanceolata, Coreopsis auriculata, Coreopsis elegans, Coreopsis coronata. Common name: Large-flowered tickseed. This species is native to Canada and USA. They are annual herbaceous plants that reach 60 cm (1.96 feet) in height. The deep green leaves are divided into 3-5 linear lobes. The showy yellow flowers appear above the leaves. They bloom from mid-spring to mid-summer. Large-flowered tickseed is used in borders, in flower beds, in pots for balconies, patios and terraces and as cut flowers for floral decorations. Coreopsis grandiflora needs full sun exposure. It resists cold and frost well. The soil can be a normal garden soil with little organic matter. Water regularly so the substrate never dries out completely. In summer water daily. Coreopsis grandiflora does not resist drought. Large-flowered tickseed does not need fertilizer. Prune faded flowers to encourage the appearance of new flowers.
