The genus Cotoneaster, family Rosaceae, includes 50 species of shrubs native to cold and temperate regions of Asia and Europe. Some species are: Cotoneaster horizontalis, Cotoneaster lacteus, Cotoneaster pannosus, Cotoneaster vulgaris, Cotoneaster acuminatus, Cotoneaster congestus, Cotoneaster mycrophyllus, Cotoneaster buxifolius, Cotoneaster wardii, Cotoneaster franchetii.

Common names: Rock Cotoneaster, Wall-spray, Rockspray cotoneaster. This species is native to China and Taiwan.

They are deciduous shrubs with a creeping bearing whose branches have a structure that looks like the scrape of a fish. The small leaves are semi-evergreen, bright green (sometimes red in autumn) and round in shape. They produce small white or pink star-shaped flowers. They bloom in spring. The showy and long-lasting fruits are red in color and highly decorative.

They are used for rockeries, to cover slopes and in pots for terraces and patios. It can behave like climbing plants if planted next to a wall (East or North orientation).

They are easy to grow plants that can grow in full sun, shade and semi-shade exposures. They resist the cold well.

They prefer a light and fertile soil.

Water regularly so that the soil is lightly even though they are quite resistant to drought.

They do not need pruning or fertilizers.

They are quite resistant plants to the usual pests and diseases.

They propagate by seeds sown in spring or by cuttings in late summer.
