It's now classified as Lobularia maritima. The genus Lobularia, family Brassicaceae, comprises 4 species of annual or perennial plants native to the Mediterranean region and Macaronesia. The 4 species are: Lobularia maritima, Lobularia canariensis, Lobularia arabica, Lobularia libyca. Common names: Sweet alison, Sweet alyssum. This species is native to the Macaronesia region and in France in the Bay of Biscay. The flowers are very small, grouped in bouquets of white, yellow or pink colors, forming compact pads. They bloom from late winter to early spring. Sweet alison is ideal plants for Mediterranean coastal gardens in rockeries, borders or in pots. Alyssum maritimum should be located in a full sun exposure. Water moderately, waiting until the soil is dry. They do not tolerate excess water. Lobularia maritima is a rustic plant that can be grown in any well-drained soil. Sweet alyssum only needs a slight fertilization with manure in winter. From one month before flowering until it ends, fertilize with mineral fertilizer every 10/12 days. Alyssum maritimum propagates by seeds sown at the end of winter, by division of the bush and by cuttings of herbaceous stems after flowering. |
